NCCU to Host First-Ever Thurgood Marshall College Fund S.O.A.R. Program 

Durham, N.C.North Carolina Central University (NCCU) is set to host its first-ever Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) Seeking, Observing, and Achieving Results (S.O.A.R.) Program from Sunday, July 6, 2025, to Friday, July 11, 2025. This week-long residential experience will provide high-achieving high school juniors (rising seniors) with an immersive introduction to the world of historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs), college preparation, and career exploration.

A Transformative Partnership

S.O.A.R.“This is an honor and a privilege for NCCU as a Thurgood Marshall College Fund Member School,” said Charles Jennings, Jr., executive director of the NCCU Career and Professional Development and Student Success. “Having the S.O.A.R. program on campus will allow us to make a lasting impression on the next generation of Eagles.”

The NCCU-TMCF S.O.A.R. initiative is designed to equip students with essential tools for success, covering key areas such as:

  • College admissions process
  • Financial aid and scholarship opportunities
  • Career pathways and professional development

Throughout the week, students will also immerse themselves in the vibrant culture of an HBCU, gaining firsthand exposure to the rich legacy of NCCU.

Hosting the TMCF S.O.A.R. Program allows us to expand pre-collegiate services and offer a transformative experience to prepare high-achieving scholars for their future academic and professional journeys,” said Dekendrick Murray, executive director of the NCCU Student Access & Success Programs Department.

The S.O.A.R. Program will feature:

  • Interactive workshops led by faculty and professionals
  • Mentorship and networking with NCCU alumni and staff
  • Guidance on navigating college life and career planning

“Our future Eagles will explore their post-graduation pathways, and we are committed to supporting them every step of the way,” said Ashley Odom, Senior Director of Programs at TMCF.

Breaking Barriers & Expanding Opportunities

The program is completely free for participants, including housing and meals, ensuring that financial limitations do not prevent talented students from accessing this opportunity. High-achieving juniors with at least a 3.0 GPA and a strong commitment to academic excellence and community involvement are encouraged to apply.
