Wake County Detention Officer Arrested for Allegedly Supplying Drugs To Inmates
RALEIGH, N.C. – A Wake County detention officer has been arrested and charged with trafficking illegal drugs into the county jail, authorities confirmed.
Officer Arrested Following Internal Investigation

The Wake County Sheriff’s Office launched an extensive investigation after receiving reports that a detention officer was allegedly supplying contraband to inmates inside the facility. The investigation led to the arrest of 33-year-old Devin Williams on Tuesday morning during his shift at the John H. Baker Jr. Public Safety Center.
Multiple Felony Charges
Williams is facing several felony charges, including:
- Conspiracy to traffic opium/heroin
- Trafficking opium or heroin
- Possession with intent to sell or distribute a Schedule II controlled substance
- Possession with intent to sell or distribute a Schedule VI controlled substance
- Providing contraband to an inmate
- Possession of a controlled substance on jail premises
He is currently being held at the Wake County Detention Center under a $2 million bond.
Sheriff’s Office Responds
Wake County Sheriff Willie Rowe emphasized the department’s commitment to accountability and professionalism:
“As soon as we were made aware of these allegations, we took immediate action and launched an investigation. This office remains committed to maintaining the highest standards of professionalism. Court Appearance & Ongoing Investigation
Williams’ first court appearance was scheduled for Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Wake County Justice Center.
