Gunfire Erupts Outside Raleigh Bar Early Sunday Targeting Rap Artist’s Van

RALEIGH, NC — A late-night performance at a Raleigh bar turned chaotic early Sunday when over 20 shots were fired in the nightclub’s parking lot, striking a van belonging to a rap artist and multiple nearby vehicles. No injuries were reported, but the targeted nature of the shooting has raised serious concerns.

Police say the gunfire outside Star Bar, located on Trawick Road near New Bern Avenue, was intended for rapper OMB Peezy, who was listed as the featured performer on the club’s website. The incident occurred just before 4 a.m., with officers responding to reports of gunshots as patrons were leaving.

Key Details

According to Raleigh police, the violence erupted just before 4 a.m. in the parking lot of Star Bar. Investigators say more than 20 rounds were fired, with bullets hitting the van belonging to the night’s featured performer, rapper OMB Peezy, as well as three other vehicles. Fortunately, no one was injured during the incident.

Authorities believe the shooting stemmed from a dispute involving individuals who were upset about the performer. Officers arrived to find the area littered with shell casings and immediately began canvassing the scene. Investigators spent more than four hours distinguishing new damage from previous incidents, further complicating the case due to Star Bar’s troubled history.

Star Bar: A Troubled History

This isn’t the first time Star Bar has drawn police attention. The nightclub has a well-documented history of violence, including:

  • August 2024: Two people were shot outside the venue.
  • 2020: Star Bar lost its liquor license following multiple shootings and stabbings.
  • May 2021: The license was reinstated and renewed again in April 2024.
  • Local residents have continued to file complaints about noise and violence tied to the bar.

Second Incident Nearby

Just a mile away, gunshots were also reported outside Patio Bar, located at 2925 New Bern Avenue, around the same time. An off-duty officer working security at the club heard the gunfire and called it in.
Raleigh police confirm the two incidents are unrelated.

Ongoing Investigation

Detectives are reviewing surveillance footage and speaking with witnesses to determine who fired the shots and what led to the altercation. As of now, no arrests have been made.
