Deadly Crash Follows Shooting Between Vehicles in Northern Durham; Second Car Still Missing
DURHAM, NC — A tragic series of events unfolded in northern Durham on Sunday evening, April 20, after occupants of two vehicles reportedly exchanged gunfire before one of the cars crashed, leaving multiple people dead. Authorities are still searching for the second vehicle involved.
Shots Fired, Then a Pursuit
Just before 6:30 p.m., the Durham County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) received a call reporting that gunshots were being fired between two vehicles near the 8200 block of Ball Road, a rural section of northern Durham County.
A patrol deputy responding to the call spotted the vehicles traveling southbound on Roxboro Street while en route. As the deputy turned around to initiate a traffic stop, both vehicles sped off in an attempt to flee.
Fatal Crash on Roxboro Street
While trying to locate the fleeing cars, the deputy soon came upon a crash scene at Roxboro Street and Latta Road. One of the vehicles had wrecked, and multiple occupants were pronounced dead at the scene.
Details about the victims and the exact number of fatalities have not yet been released, pending notification of families and further investigation.
The second vehicle remains unaccounted for, and its occupants are still at large as of Monday morning.
