Former Raleigh Police Sergeant Resigned After Knife Threat Arrest in Dunn
DUNN, N.C. – A Raleigh police sergeant resigned on Monday, July 7, just days after he was arrested for allegedly threatening a disabled man with a knife during a disturbing altercation at a Dunn restaurant.

Wesley Adam Lane, 37, of Mount Olive, had served with the Raleigh Police Department since 2010. His resignation came less than a week after Dunn Police charged him with assault on an individual with a disability and communicating threats, both misdemeanors.
Alleged Knife Threat at Western Sizzlin’
The incident took place on June 25 at the Western Sizzlin’ Steakhouse in Dunn. According to court documents and police reports, Lane allegedly approached another man’s table, picked up a knife, and threatened to “cut [the victim’s] throat,” accusing the man of touching his daughter.
The victim, who was described in the arrest warrant as mildly autistic, with an intellectual learning disability and epilepsy, was not physically harmed.
Investigation and Resignation
Dunn Police launched an investigation after receiving the report on June 27. Witness interviews and surveillance footage supported the victim’s account, and officers confirmed Lane’s employment with the Raleigh Police Department during their inquiry.
Upon notification, RPD initiated an internal affairs investigation; however, Lane submitted his resignation on July 7, before the review was completed.
Lane was formally arrested on Saturday, July 5, and released on a $1,000 unsecured bond. He is scheduled to appear in court next month.
Law Enforcement Responds
“The Dunn Police Department is committed to conducting impartial and thorough investigations, regardless of the background or profession of those involved,” stated the department in a press release.
Raleigh police confirmed Lane had resigned but declined to comment further on personnel matters.
