Raleigh Man Found Dead After Assault; 29-Year-Old Charged With Murder

RALEIGH, NC — A welfare check call in Raleigh early Tuesday morning ended in tragedy when police discovered a man suffering from critical injuries, leading to a homicide investigation and the arrest of a 29-year-old suspect.

Victim Identified as William Hala

At approximately 4:09 a.m. on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, Raleigh Police officers responded to a 911 welfare check in the 1100 block of Auston Grove Drive. Upon arrival, they discovered 24-year-old William Hala, who appeared to be the victim of an assault. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Suspect Arrested and Charged

Following the initial investigation, officers identified Jonathan Daniel Lee, 29, as the suspect in the assault. Lee was arrested and charged with Murder. He is currently in custody as the investigation continues.

Investigation Ongoing

The Raleigh Police Department is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding Hala’s death. Authorities have not released information about a motive or whether the suspect and victim knew each other.
