Durham Police Investigating Wednesday Morning Fatal Shooting on North Miami Boulevard
Durham, NC – The Durham Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred Wednesday morning (Oct. 15) in the 1000 block of North Miami Boulevard, leaving a 28-year-old man dead and prompting an active investigation in the busy East Durham corridor.
Details of the Incident
Officers responded around 9:37 a.m. after receiving reports that an adult male had been shot. When officers arrived, they found Abdul-Jalil Burnette, 28, of Durham, suffering from a gunshot wound.
Burnette was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased. Authorities say the suspect fled the scene in an unknown direction before police arrived.
Investigation Ongoing
Investigators remained on the scene late Wednesday morning, working to determine what led to the shooting. The section between Raynor Street and North Miami Boulevard was temporarily closed to traffic as officers gathered evidence.
The Durham Police Department has not released details on a possible motive or suspect description at this time.
