CVS Employees Shot, Eventually Rescued By Gunshots of Coworker’s Boyfriend
What began as an ordinary Tuesday evening inside an Indianapolis CVS spiraled into chaos, gunfire, and bloodshed — leaving two pharmacy workers wounded and a suspect fighting for his own life, police say.
The violence erupted just after 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 7, at a CVS on the city’s east side. According to a probable cause affidavit filed Oct. 14, it all started over a pair of pain prescriptions.
Terry Rowe Jr. and his wife arrived at the pharmacy to pick up two medications, but when employees told them that only one was ready, Rowe’s temper exploded. Witnesses said he unleashed a torrent of insults at one of the technicians, identified as “DJ” in court documents.
DJ fired back, exchanging heated words until a pharmacist ordered her to clock out and go home for the day.
But the argument didn’t end there.
As DJ waited outside for her boyfriend to pick her up, she told police she overheard Rowe on the phone — saying chilling words she’d never forget:
“Get the Drake. Get the gun.”
Moments later, as Rowe and his wife sat in their vehicle outside the store, DJ’s boyfriend pulled up. What happened next unfolded in seconds — a verbal spat, then a hail of gunfire that shattered the quiet evening.
Bullets ripped through the parking lot. DJ ducked behind a pillar, but both she and another worker, “JB”, were struck.
Inside, JB — later identified as Jerri Brady — said she knew the danger was real before the first shot was ever fired.
“I saw him put something in his pocket. I knew it was a gun,” Brady recalled in an interview. “I called my store manager and said, ‘I fear for our lives.’ She said, ‘Call the police.’ And then it just… started.”
Brady was hit twice in her left arm, suffering a severe fracture. “My arm literally just flew back,” she said. “I was losing so much blood they thought I was gonna die.”
DJ was also shot in the right arm. Both were rushed to the hospital for treatment.
Rowe didn’t stick around. He sped off but didn’t get far. Police later found him at a hospital with gunshot wounds to his arm, leg, and ribs — and multiple bullet holes riddling his 2024 Jeep Wagoneer.
Investigators recovered 18 shell casings at the scene. DJ’s boyfriend handed over his Glock handgun, telling officers he only “fired back” after Rowe opened fire.
A search of Rowe’s home revealed methamphetamine, several firearms — including a pistol with the serial number filed off — and a stolen rifle reported missing in August, police said.
Rowe now faces a slate of charges, including aggravated battery, dealing in methamphetamine, and multiple weapons violations.
As of Oct. 15, no attorney was listed for him.
What began as a routine trip for pain medicine ended in screams, shattered glass, and blood on the pharmacy floor — a terrifying reminder of how quickly tempers can turn deadly.
