Durham, NC – Durham police have identified the man shot and killed inside the Grab and Go Market on Morehead Drive over the weekend, marking yet another fatal shooting under investigation in the city. The victim, 53-year-old John Henry Singleton of Durham, died after suffering life-threatening injuries inside the convenience store late Saturday night.

Shooting Reported Just Before 9:30 p.m.

Officers responded shortly before 9:30 p.m. on November 15 to the 1600 block of Morehead Drive following reports of a shooting inside the store. When officers arrived, they found an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound. Singleton was rushed to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries.

The Grab and Go Market — the only business in that block of Morehead Avenue, located just east of Chapel Hill Road — was surrounded by crime scene tape as multiple units secured the area Saturday night.

No Arrests or Suspect Information Released

As of Tuesday afternoon, no arrests have been announced, and police have not identified a suspect or potential motive. The Durham Police Department continues to describe the case as an active and ongoing investigation.
