Durham BOCC Advances Key County Priorities, Approves Funding Actions at Nov. 10 Session

DURHAM, N.C. — The Durham Board of County Commissioners advanced major operational, funding, and community initiatives during its regular session on November 10, 2025, addressing public services, public safety, open space preservation, and countywide program investments. The hybrid meeting, held at 200 E. Main St., opened following a Closed Session that included personnel updates and salary adjustments.

Closed Session Actions

The Board returned from Closed Session and announced the following salary increases:

  • Register of Deeds: 5.133%
  • Sheriff: 4%
  • Board of County Commissioners: 4%

Meeting Called to Order

Chair Nida Allam opened the meeting at 7:03 p.m., followed by the Pledge of Allegiance led by Commissioner Burton. No agenda adjustments were made.

Countywide Announcements

1. Disruption to Food & Nutrition Benefits
Due to the ongoing federal government shutdown, partial November SNAP benefits will be issued. Residents can find updates at NCDHHS.gov/fns.

2. Countywide Food Resources Website
A new webpage—dconc.gov/Public-Information/SNAP-Update—offers food pantries, meal programs, donation tips, and a County food resource map.

3. Open Space Matching Grant Deadline – Nov. 12

1. Resolution Honoring DeWarren K. Langley

The Board recognized Langley’s life and legacy. The Juvenile Crime Prevention Council presented a memorial plaque to his family.

Ileana Vink was introduced as Durham County’s new Early Childhood Coordinator, supporting countywide early childhood initiatives.

3. GIS Day Proclamation

Nov. 19, 2025 was proclaimed GIS Day in Durham County.
