Granville County Standoff Ends in Tragedy: Suspect Dies by Suicide After Fatal Shooting

GRANVILLE COUNTY, NC – A Granville County neighborhood turned into a scene of heartbreak and heavy police presence after Brad McCurdy, the suspect in a deadly double shooting, took his own life following an hours-long standoff with law enforcement.
Deadly Shooting and Standoff
Authorities say the confrontation began after McCurdy allegedly shot his ex-girlfriend and her boyfriend on Philo White Road, about a mile from the final standoff location. According to his sister, the woman died at the scene, and her boyfriend was seriously injured.
Following the shootings, McCurdy fled the area and barricaded himself inside a white Chevrolet Silverado work truck parked near NC 96 and Pine Ridge Road in the Wilton community. As law enforcement surrounded the vehicle, he reportedly shot and killed himself before officers could negotiate his surrender.
Massive Law Enforcement Response
The incident drew a large-scale police response involving SWAT team members, deputies, and state troopers. Drones and K9 units were deployed as part of the operation. A shelter-in-place order was issued for nearby residents, and Pine Ridge Road was closed for several hours, leaving some homeowners unable to access their properties.
Witness Vicky Jones described the ordeal as a “sad situation,” expressing sympathy after learning that two people had been shot.
Prior Legal Troubles
Court records show McCurdy had a history of legal issues, including trespassing and violating a restraining order. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to piece together what led to the fatal confrontation.
Conclusion
