Hillsborough Man Killed in Durham Stabbing; Suspect Arrested on Felony Murder Charge
DURHAM, N.C. — Durham Police have identified the victim in a fatal stabbing on Foushee Street earlier this month as a 38-year-old man from Hillsborough. Investigators also announced that a suspect has now been arrested and charged with felony murder in connection with the case.
What Happened
Police say officers responded to a reported stabbing at approximately 8:38 p.m. on January 10, 2026, in the 300 block of Foushee Street.
When officers arrived, they found an adult male suffering from multiple stab wounds. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased a short time later.
The area was secured as investigators began processing the scene and interviewing potential witnesses.
Victim Identified
Authorities later confirmed the victim as:
Abiel Alvarez-Illescas, 38, of Hillsborough, North Carolina
No additional details about the circumstances leading up to the stabbing have been released.
Update: Suspect Arrested and Charged
On January 13, 2026, police arrested Dexter Hart, 37, in connection with the incident.
Hart has been charged with:
- Felony Murder
