WakeUP Presents Leadership Awards To Community Partners

Raleigh, NC – At WakeUP Wake County’s annual meeting and community forum held last night (March 7) at WakeMed conference center, WakeUP’s Board of Directors presented WakeUP Awards to several individuals and organizations in recognition of their notable accomplishments and leadership in 2017.  Each year WakeUP honors others who have worked to advance healthy, sustainable communities and plan well for Wake County’s rapid growth. WakeUP has collaborated with these community leaders who inspire the Wake County community with their vision and civic engagement.

Jessica Holmes, Chair, Wake Board of Commissioners (center) received the Thomas Crowder Visionary Award (submitted)

Advocates for Health in Action – Stan Norwalk Community Engagement Award recipeints. (submitted)

City of Raleigh Stormwater Management Division receives the Leadership Award. (submitted)
  • Jessica Holmes, Chair, Wake Board of Commissioners – Thomas Crowder Visionary Award – for inspiring and leading the development of the Wake County Affordable Housing Plan (approved unanimously by the Wake Board of Commissioners in October 2017). Note: this award honors former Raleigh City Councilor and WakeUP founder Thomas Crowder.
  • Advocates for Health in Action – Stan Norwalk Community Engagement Award – for bringing public awareness to the impact of ACES (Adverse Childhood Experiences) and for leading a community-wide effort to build resilience and improve public health. Note: this award honors former Wake County Commissioner and WakeUP founder Stan Norwalk.
  • City of Raleigh Stormwater Management Division – Leadership Award – for leading the development and implementation of Raleigh’s Green Stormwater Initiative (GSI) to improve water quality. Raleigh’s GSI is the greenest stormwater program in North Carolina.
