ConnectWake Helps Wake County Residents Get Connected To The Internet
On April 20 Wake County launched ConnectWake, a mobile-friendly online directory to help residents find low-cost computers, computer skills training, discounted internet service and other local resources to get connected.
“We’ve learned that many people use mobile devices but lack the tools and skills needed for broader use of the internet for school, business and personal purposes,” said Sig Hutchinson, vice chair of the board. “ConnectWake can help us bridge the digital divide, support our economy and enhance quality of life in Wake County.”
Basic computer skills are important in today’s world, and many jobs require you to have them. There are multiple computer training courses available in Wake County among other services. At ConnectWake.org, people can find:
- Locations with public Wi-Fi;
- Discounted internet service;
- Low-cost computers;
- Public computers;
- Computer training; and
- Job search support services
The effort is part of the Wake County Board of Commissioners objective to facilitate the buildout of highspeed internet access in Wake County to enable coverage, speed and affordability for all citizens. This initiative moves the Commissioners toward their goal to create a business-friendly environment to attract, retain and grow business, diversify the economic base and create job opportunities for the people of Wake County.
