#Motiv8Mondays – Tiana Sutton

Welcome to Spectacular Magazine Independent Artist of the Week, the latest Spectacular Magazine weekly feature. Each week Raven Nicole Gibbs (professionally known as Raven Nicole), founder of the non-profit organization Motiv8, Inc., will feature an up-and-coming artist of various genres. This week we are featuring Tiana Sutton.

 

 

1. Who are you? (Name? Where are you based? Defining statement?)

My name is Tiana Sutton. I am the founder and executive director of  Tiana Sutton Presents(TSP). TSP is a creative agency and production company that designs, coordinates, and executes art-based events in the Raleigh-Durham area. Established in 2017, TSP is dedicated to the furthering of the local art community. We find intriguing outlets to display artistic pieces while producing authentic and engaging work.

 

2. How did you start?

I started with a story I wanted to tell, visually through art, and with the help of a few friends: MartezDominque Yancey, Christina Perkins and Kahlil RaHw Smith.

 

3. What is your genre/profession?

My genre is creative arts: dance, music, drama, spoken word etc.

 

4. Who are your musical or artistic influences?

My musical and artistic influence is, of course, Michael Jackson lol! 

 

5. What Motiv8s you?

My motivation comes from a car accident in 2015. A car hit mine dead on and this incident changed my perspective on life. I realized that in any moment everything I have can be stripped from me. I no longer wanted to just be Tiana Sutton, the girl who worked hard on everyone else’s vision except her own. Instead I decided to own my power and make what I wanted come to life.

 

6. Do you have any upcoming projects, shows, or appearances? What are your next steps?

My upcoming show is The Naked Truth, an artistic performance that aims to evoke thought surrounding social, economic, and political issues through various art forms. This show brings awareness to major topics such as healthy relationships, mental health, violence, etc. while incorporating many of Raleigh/Durham’s top local artists.  On the main stage, The Naked Truth displays the complexities of living life in today’s social landscape. Saturday August 25th at 7pm.
