Art Exhibition & Sale To Support Southeastern Wake Adult Day Center

Raleigh, NC – Southeastern Wake Adult Day Center has served seniors, disabled adults, and caregivers in Wake and Johnston Counties for twenty-seven years. The 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization will host their Annual Art Exhibit and Sale on Friday, October 19, 2018 from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm.

In collaboration with Southeastern Healthcare of North Carolina, this fundraising event will support programs and services of Southeastern Wake Adult Day Center.  The community is invited to attend and enjoy music, hors d’oeuvres, art shopping, networking and friend-raising. This year’s theme is “A Showcase of the State of North Carolina.” Admission to the event, to be held at 3401 Carl Sandburg Court in Raleigh, is free.

Artist Eric McKay

Evelyn Sanders, President & CEO of Southeastern states, “Last year over 300 people supported this event. This year we are even more excited about the truly creative work the clients at the center have created for display.” 

Additionally, there is excitement about local artist Eric McRay, who is donating a piece of his highly sought-after work to support the event. McRay will also give a short gallery talk at the event.

McRay’s artistic works have been featured on TV and radio programs, and in numerous newspapers, magazines and websites.  The Raleigh News & Observer named him one of the “Artists to Watch”.  He has been listed among the “Best Local Artist” and “Favorite Local Artist” on multiple occasions.  McRay has also been featured in Fortune Small Business, Art Business News, Our State Magazine and Southern Living Magazine.  “I am so excited to be a part of this event at Southeastern. The vision of this agency to highlight undiscovered artists who may be living with a disability is unparalleled,” said McRay.

All works on display have been hand painted by older adults and adults with disabilities under the direction of Salek Sadith, the staff counselor and visual arts instructor.

Phyllis Coley

Local personality, Phyllis Coley, publisher of Spectacular Magazine and host of Spectacular Magazine Radio Show on Foxy 107/104 will serve as the guest host/emcee for the evening. Ms. Coley launched Spectacular Magazine in 2004 and Spectacular Magazine Radio Show in March 2009.  The high-energy half-hour bi-weekly show, previously aired on Clear Channel’s 106.1 FM with Rush Limbaugh and currently broadcast on Radio One’s Foxy 107/104 FM, is a  community resource offering a unique blend of news, interviews, and commentary on topics including economy, politics, health, finances, sports, arts and events.

Also supporting the fundraiser will be members of the Triangle Friends of African American Art under the leadership of Ms. Sherri Holmes.  This organization strives to expand awareness, understanding and support of African American arts and artists.

Southeastern Wake Adult Day Center understands the challenges facing seniors, disabled adults, and caregivers. Its programs are carefully crafted to enhance quality of life and improve general welfare of each participant and their family.  Southeastern Wake Adult Day Center began in 1991 as a small adult day facility serving 12 participants. Responding to the growing needs among seniors and disabled adults, Southeastern expanded its program by adding Home Care services and, more recently, Overnight Respite.  Today the agency serves nearly 100 people daily through their programs and services. The programs that benefit individuals and families are:

  • Adult Day Health promotes healthy aging and aids in overcoming the loss of self-worth which can accompany isolation and loneliness as we age and become less mobile.
  • Overnight Respite provides temporary overnight care of someone who is physically and/or cognitively disabled, when their caregiver needs an extended break from the continuous demands of caregiving.
  • Home Care enables frail or disabled individuals to remain at home while receiving assistance with Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADLs) and/or Activities of Daily Living (ADLs).

Southeastern Healthcare of North Carolina is a leader among home- and community-based service providers.
