Durham Children’s Business Fair To Feature Local Youth Entrepreneurs

Durham, NC – The Durham Children’s Business Fair is designed to inspire children to discover their inner entrepreneur. Hosted locally at the Student U Campus located in the W. G. Pearson Center (600 E. Umstead Rd.), the Durham Children’s Business Fair will take place on November 3rd from 11 am – 2:30 pm. This event is free and open to the public.

children'sKids create a product or service, develop a brand, build a marketing strategy, and then open for customers at this one-day marketplace. The children are responsible for the setup, sales, and interacting with customers.

The Durham Children’s Business Fair is actively seeking children ages 6-14 to share their talents by selling handmade items or services they perform. For just $15, children can rent a table & 2 chairs. Children working as a group should submit one application that includes each child’s information. No more than 3 children per business. If children sign up and they are selling different products (i.e. food item and a bath product), they are considered two businesses and require two separate forms and fees paid.

Cash prizes of $50 will be awarded in each of the four age groups (6-7, 8-10, 11-12, and 13-14) for “Best Customer Service,” “Most Creative Idea,” and “Most Impressive Presentation.”

The original Acton Children’s Business Fair founders, Jeff and Laura Sandefer, and a few other families wanted to spark a sense of wonder and entrepreneurship in their children, so they created the first Acton Children’s Business Fair in Austin, Texas, in 2007. That year, there were seven entrepreneurs and around 25 attendees. Now, there are over 115 entrepreneurs and 1,500 attendees at the Acton Children’s Business Fair in Austin.
