NCCU Football Breaks into FCS Coaches Top-25 Poll

DURHAM, N.C. – For the first time in the history of the program, the North Carolina Central University football team is ranked in the FCS (Football Championship Subdivision) Coaches Poll. The Coaches Poll is a weekly ranking of the top 25 NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) college football teams determined by coaches at the FCS level.

With an overall record of 7-2 and an unbeaten 6-0 mark in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) play, NCCU entered Monday’s (Nov. 7) Football Championship Subdivision Coaches Top – 25 Poll at No. 25. This is the first time the North Carolina Central University Eagles football team has been nationally ranked since transitioning to NCAA Division I-FCS in 2011.

NCCU is riding a seven-game win streak after dropping season-opening games to Duke University and No. 14 Western Michigan – both FBS programs.

Under the direction of third-year head coach Jerry Mack, NCCU owns a 19-3 record against MEAC opponents in the past three seasons, earning a share of the MEAC championship title in both 2014 and 2015. The Eagles have won 14 consecutive games against non-FBS teams, including 13 straight in league play.

NCCU hosts Howard University (1-8 overall; 1-5 conference) on Saturday Nov. 12 at 2 p.m. The Eagles then close out the regular season at home on Nov. 19 at 2 p.m. against rival North Carolina A&T State University (8-1; 6-0 conference).
