Poston (-22) Stays Perfect, Wins Wyndham Championship
Greensboro, NC – Hickory-native J.T. Poston (-22) earns his first career PGA victory by winning the 2019 Wyndham Championship on Sunday. Poston completes the first bogey-free tournament victory since Lee Travino accomplished the feat in 1974. Poston finished the day at 8-under with a score of 62. His 258 (65-65-66-62) 72-hole score ties the tournament record as well.
Entering the day, Beyong Hun An led the pack starting at 17-under after 54 holes. Brice Garnett (-16) and Raleigh-native Webb Simpson (-16) were within striking distance coming into Sunday. Despite strong pushes by both guys, Poston stayed composed and finished his weekend in Greensboro in solid fashion to earn his first victory on tour. An finished the last four holes with two bogeys to deflate his momentum right before crossing the finish line.
Before becoming the Wyndham Championship in 2007, Greensboro has hosted four other PGA events since 1938 when it was introduced as the Greensboro Open. There have been five players born in North Carolina to win this tournament, the last was Webb Simpson, who finished his round 5-under to card a final round score of 65. Simpson and Poston were paired together on Sunday and it is only fitting that Poston best Simpson to become the sixth North Carolinian to be victorious in Greensboro
