Shaw Bears Gash Tigers for Second Straight Victory

RALEIGH, N.C. Today, the Shaw Bears came to play and took care of business.

They defeated Edward Waters College from Jacksonville, Fla., 49-10 to capture back-to-back victories. They had 512 yards of total offense for their first home win of the season.

Right from the start, the Bears took care of business – thanks to a 35-yard touchdown run by Daniel Bender. It followed was by a 5-yard touchdown pass from for Campbell’s first career touchdown passing.

Edward Waters’ only points came in the second quarter from a 9-yard touchdown passing from Braden Minor to David Beeks; and a 42-yard field goal by Angel Seiver. 

“We saw some good things out of our young guys,” said Bears coach Adrian Jones. We played all four quarters.”

Freshman Bears running back Sidney Gibbs had 16 rushing attempts for 127 yards rushing.

“He doesn’t feel like a freshman,” Jones said when asked by Sidney Gibbs. “He is more like a junior running back.” 

What’s Next

Edward Waters (0-4) travels to Wilberforce, Ohio, to take on Central State University.

Shaw (2-2, CIAA 1-0) travels to Ettrick, Virginia, to take on their CIAA rival Virginia Union. 

The next home game for Shaw is homecoming weekend on Oct. 19 against Livingstone at George Williams Athletic Complex for a noon kickoff.
