Cunane, Brown-Turner Too Much for FSU
RALEIGH, N.C. – Elissa Cunane and the ninth-ranked NC State women’s basketball team (16-1, 5-1 ACC) put away the No. 13 Florida State (15-3, 4-3 ACC) in Raleigh at the Valvano Arena at Reynolds Coliseum this evening in a highly-anticipated top-15 conference match-up winning 68-51.
Cunane notched her tenth double-double of the season, at the pace she’s going I’m sure that she will have sole ownership in the ACC by the end of the season. Today Cunane finished with 20 points, 10 rebounds, 5 blocks, and an assist, she also shot 9-for-15 from the field.
Before entering this evening’s game the sophomore center stands among the best in the nation in multiple categories. Cunane ranks eighth nationally in double-doubles (9), seventh in field-goal percentage (.634) and 17th in rebounds per game (10.6). All three of those numbers, as well as her 17.2 points per game, lead the team, and her field-goal percentage paces the conference this season.
Thus the end of the season the Women’s Basketball ACC projections include both teams expecting NC State to finish number two in the conference, while Florida State projects to finish number three.
This win makes the Lady Wolfpack a perfect 10-0 at home and has outscored its opponents by an average of 25.3 points when playing on Kay Yow Court this season, in this game they won by 17.
Jakia Brown-Turner the wing Freshman was a big part of tonight’s win posting her career highs in points (18), rebounds (8), FGM (7) and minutes (39).
Two other Lady Wolfpack players finished with double figures Aislinn Konig (10), and Kayla Jones (10) respectively. The starting five for the Pack going forward will be a tough task to handle with them being able to score on multiple levels and from any given player.
Up next for the Lady Wolfpack will defend home court again to face the Wake Forest Lady Demon Deacons at Reynolds Coliseum Saturday, January 19th at 2:00 pm.
