Darryel Washington, Founder & Executive Director, is an avid golfer, visionary and tenacious leader and a self-determined professional with a heart for youth and a passion for business. His business experience encompasses financial and strategic planning, sales and marketing. This includes the industries of radio, food and beverage, financial services, insurance, and telecommunications. A trained athlete and 15-year baseball player, his love of golf began in 2009 when he received his first set of golf clubs as a birthday gift. This led him to sign up for training at a local golf course and he has not stopped golfing since. Darryel views golf as a mental game that allows for mental accommodation and clarity. This also allows for numerous and excellent networking opportunities. Darryel also believes that golf provides an alternative to the current popular and traditional sports culture.
Golf is a non-traditional sport that can be played on both a personal and professional level and has piqued the interest of many parents that are looking to have their youth involved in various activities that do not involve direct contact. Youth enrolled in the Golf Academy’s program are exposed to different areas of this sport such as country clubs, tournaments, and other events where golfing is exemplified. Front and Back 9 Junior Golf Academy is innovative and different in that they have programs that help the youth not only learn about the game golf but prepares them for college and the real world.
Business deals are made on the golf course! Front & Back 9 Junior Golf Academy not only promotes the game of golf but also promotes entrepreneurship by hosting children’s business fairs. This allows youth to develop an interest in entrepreneurship and build business acumen.
