Duke Escapes With Win vs Virginia
Durham, NC — The Duke University Blue Devils lost/won a thrilling contest against the Virginia Cavaliers by a score of (score). Matthew Hurt continued to dazzle from beyond the three-point line. The sophomore forward nailed 4 such shots in the first half alone.
Both teams came out firing and the score reflected it. Duke began the game on a 6-0 scoring run. Virginia immediately retaliated to notch the score at 6 apiece. Both teams shot the ball at over 60% efficiency in the first half.

The offenses were humming and the defensive effort was surprisingly high. Duke’s Jordan Goldwire generated several steals that were converted into fast-break points. The Blue Devils managed to keep the Cavaliers within striking distance through this masterful combination of defensive pressure and offensive efficiency.
Both teams continued to battle fiercely in the second half with Virginia hitting multiple big shots and Duke matching pace at every turn. As the second half unfolded both teams continued to convert and up the ante as crunch time approached.
Sophomore forward Wendell Moore Jr. was injured and forced to leave the contest during the second half amid what can only be described as an off night.
Neither team wanted to fold and Duke managed to create a one-point lead, 66-65, with under a minute remaining. With the game in the balance, the Duke defense locked in and forced a shutout through the final 60 seconds.
Duke will look to use this win in order to jumpstart their campaign to vie for a postseason bid.
Matthew Hurt recorded 22 points, four rebounds, and one block in the contest.
Jaemyn Brakefield recorded 11 points and five rebounds in the contest.
Jeremy Roach contributed 12 points and three assists in the contest.
Duke returns to action against Syracuse on February 22nd at Cameron Indoor Stadium in Durham.
