NC State Completes Series Sweep Of BC
BRIGHTON, Mass. – Behind a complete game effort from pitcher Matt Willadsen and late scoring by its offense, NC State baseball (14-11, 8-10 ACC) shut out Boston College (14-16, 4-15 ACC), 7-0, on Sunday afternoon at Harrington Athletics Village in Brighton, Mass.
With the Wolfpack’s second shutout win of the season, the squad picked up its second series sweep of the year and extended its win streak to five. Additionally, NC State moves to a perfect 8-0 in road games.
The first six innings of the contest were a pitcher’s duel between Willadsen (3-0) and BC’s Alex Stiegler, who allowed just three batters apiece to reach base up to that point.
The Pack broke the deadlock in the seventh thanks to Vojtech Mensik’s squeeze bunt with runners at the corners, and then clutch bases-loaded two-out doubles by Jose Torres and Luca Tresh in the eighth and ninth tacked on the insurance runs.
Willadsen tossed the first complete game of his career in a Wolfpack uniform, yielding just two hits and four walks while fanning five. He is the third NC State pitcher this year to go the distance.
