North Carolina Central 2021 Coronation Recap
DURHAM, NC — North Carolina Central University hosted their Coronation on Monday, November 1, 2021, at the McLendon-McDougald Gymnasium on their campus.
There were performances by the WPI Gospel Choir and the Dance Company of Repertoir.
Mr. NCCU Jarvis Blanding, Jr. is a Psychology major from Winston-Salem, NC, and is a member of the school’s track team.
On winning Mr. NCCU, Blanding commented, “I feel amazing. It’s pretty surreal right now.” He added, “I was the only one who ran for it and I felt confident that I was going to win it! Blanding’s goal for this year is “To ensure that the student body has their voices heard when it comes to various issues, especially when it comes to academic and personal. Also, to let them know that a helping hand is always reaching out!”
His advice to future Mr. NCCU candidates is, “You are a king. You will be a king!” He added, “Believe what you’re passionate about and make it happen!”
Blanding’s girlfriend, Senior Imani Moseley, who is a Criminal Justice major from Asheville, NC was thrilled! On Blanding’s victory, she commented, “I’m very proud of him. I’m glad he won Mr. NCCU!” Her advice to potential future Mr. and Miss NCCU is, “To be yourself, no matter what. If you put your mind to it, you’ll be able to do anything!”
Miss NCCU is Senior Kayla Crawford, who is a Psychology Student from Upper Marlboro, Maryland. Her platform was known as “The Off-Season,” which helps toward graduation and career readiness, COVID resilience, community engagement, school morale, campus resources, and mental health awareness.
Mister Senior is represented by Jason Sam, a Mass Communications major from Jacksonville, NC. He believes that in order to be an effective leader, you must be involved heavily with the campus. He believes that he will work very hard to represent his Senior Class of NCCU ‘22 “the best way possible.”
Zoe Campbell, a Kinesiology major from Suffolk, Virginia, is Miss Senior. Campbell states, “I’m very excited and I’m ready to work with the Class of ‘22.” Her goal for the Senior Class is to prepare them for internships and outreach programs. Her advice to future potential winners of Miss Senior and Miss NCCU is to “always be yourself and to run for the position that you want in your heart.” Her postgraduate goals are “to teach and after that…STAY TUNED!!”
Campbell is a prime example of a young lady with exemplary school spirit, as well as a young lady who has high respect for herself. Her mother, Dr. Campbell was so excited about the honor. On her daughter’s Miss Senior victory, she commented, “I am very excited about the honor of Zoey winning Miss Senior. It’s a wonderful way to win her Senior Year at North Carolina Central University!” She added, “She truly has school spirit. These four years have been amazing. We’re Virginia residents and North Carolina has become her home. From being SOAR leader to winning Miss Senior. She loves these sloping hills and verdant greens!”
