Georgia Tech Drops Cards in ACC Tourney
CHARLOTTE, NC– The No. 7 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets bounce back after a loss to Pitt to defeat the No. 2 Louisville Cardinals, 9-4 at Truist Field.
The victory for this afternoon’s game gave the Yellow Jackets their 34th win of the season.
With a slow start to the game, Louisville pitcher, Kade Grundy, walked three straight Yellow Jacket batters in the top of the third. With the bases loaded, Alex Galvan came in as a pitcher in hopes to keep Georgia Tech from putting up runs. Drew Compton stepped up to bat and knocked a triple to right field resulting in three RBIs to put the Yellow Jackets up 3-0. Hall then singled up the middle to give Compton the go-to home plate, ending the third inning 4-0.
After playing a key role in yesterday’s game against, the Cardinals, Dylan Rushing gave the team some fuel in the bottom of the fourth. Rushing hit a double to right field which gave Metzinger time to reach third base putting Louisville in scoring position. However, Georgia Tech pitcher, Marquis Grissom was not going to give the Cards the opportunity to see home plate.
Grissom appeared in 6.2 innings with seven strikeouts. He was a weapon for the Yellow Jackets this game by only allowing five hits for Louisville throughout his innings as pitcher. Grissom kept The Cardinals off the board until the bottom of the sixth with a single by Jack Payton to push Brian Anderson home to give Louisville their first run.
Georgia Tech saw the bases loaded throughout the duration of the game but couldn’t quite make the plays necessary to get those runners to home plate. This was until Parada singled to Louisville’s shortstop in the top of the seventh. Parada’s hit resulted in an RBI with Compton giving the Yellow Jackets another run to put them up 5-1.
The Cardinals then began to see some spark in the bottom of the seventh, Anderson singled up the middle allowing for Bianco and Beard to drive in two more runs for Louisville. Georgia Tech put up four more in the ninth with a double by DeLeo to clear the bases putting them up 9-3.
The final score was 9-4 after Levi Usher for the Cards singled for an RBI for Rushing to put up one more.
The ACC tournament continues with No. 4 Notre Dame and No. 9 Florida State facing off at 3 P.M. Followed by No. 1 Virginia Tech vs No. 12 Clemson at 7 P.M to close out the day.
