Duke’s Coach Lawson Set to Lead USA 3×3 WBB
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Duke women’s basketball head coach Kara Lawson has been named head coach of the USA Basketball Women’s 3×3 National Team, as the organization has announced the 2022 FIBA World Cup men’s and women’s team rosters.
Coinciding with the announcement, training camp for the 3×3 men’s and women’s teams is being held at Duke this weekend through Monday. The teams were selected by the USA Basketball 3×3 National Team Selection Committee and will compete June 21-26 at the 2022 FIBA 3×3 World Cup in Antwerp, Belgium.
Since taking the reigns in 2017, Lawson has led USA Basketball 3×3 to seven gold medals. She was tapped the 2021 USA Basketball 3×3 Coach of the Year after helping Team USA make history at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo as she guided the U.S. Women’s National Team to a gold medal in its Olympic debut.
Lawson will lead a women’s World Cup roster comprised of Cierra Burdick, Lauren Cox, Ashley Joens, and Hailey Van Lith.
Burdick is a 2015 Tennessee graduate and a multiple gold-medal winners as a National Team player on both the five-on-five teams and the 3×3 squads. Cox is a 2020 Baylor grad and making her 3×3 debut. Joens, who will play a fifth collegiate season at Iowa State in 2022-23, is also a five-on-five National Team veteran. Van Lith is a rising junior at Louisville and was named 2019 FIBA 3×3 U18 World Cup MVP.
The USA Women’s 3×3 World Cup Team begins pool play on June 22 with games against New Zealand and Austria.
