Jason Day Set to Play at Wyndham Championship
GREENSBORO, N.C. – – Former World No. 1 and Major championship winner Jason Day will play next month’s Wyndham Championship, the tournament announced today. The 83rd annual Wyndham Championship is set for Aug. 3-7, 2022.
Day has 12 PGA TOUR victories to his credit including the 2015 PGA Championship. He won four other tournaments that season, highlighted by the BMW Championship in the FedExCup Playoffs. He later ascended to No. 1 in the Official World Golf Rankings and enjoyed that position for a total of 51 weeks.
“Jason Day is an incredible golfer who is working hard to complete his comeback from back troubles a few years ago,” executive director Mark Brazil said. “It’s always big news to have a former World No. 1 in the Wyndham Championship field. With his recent strong performances, we look forward to seeing him compete for the Sam Snead Cup in a few weeks.”
A native and resident of Australia, Day is 119th in the current FedExCup point standings and 141st in the Official World Golf Rankings. He is working to secure his 15th consecutive appearance in the FedExCup Playoffs which begin after the Wyndham Championship.
His best finishes this season are tied for third at the Farmers Insurance Open, his highest since 2018, tied for 10th at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans and tied for 15th at the Wells Fargo Championship. He is a four-time member of the Presidents Cup international team. Day last played the Wyndham Championship in 2008 but missed the cut in his only previous appearance.
