Duke Downs Wake on Last Second FG
The Duke Blue Devils (6-3, 3-2) hosted the Wake Forest Deacons(4-5,1-5) as the Deacons searched for vengeance from their previous encounter. The Deacons, trailing by three in their last face-off, were aiming for redemption but fell short, losing 24-21
Quarterback Mitch Griffis, who returned from a previous injury, played a pivotal role in the Deacons’ offensive strategy, helping them advance down the field and enter the red zone. Despite the challenges faced by Duke’s third-string quarterback Grayson Loftis, the offense found its rhythm, with Moore and Jordan Waters combining forces for two touchdowns and 126 rushing yards.
As the game progressed to the end, the game continued to remain tied between the Blue Devils and the Deacons. Keeping everyone gassed up, the Deacons couldn’t handle the heat that was given as Wake Forest kicker Matthew Dennis missed the field goal handing the ball back to Duke.

Linebacker Nick Morris Jr. and Freeman combined for a total of 22 tackles, with Morris Jr. securing an assisted sack, and DeWayne Carter contributing 8 stops, including 1 sack.
In a crucial moment as the fourth quarter dwindled down, the Deacon offense faced a turnover. Defensive end Ryan Smith intercepted the ball, providing a burst of momentum. With renewed energy, Duke executed 10 more plays, covering 52 yards. Kicker Todd Pelino stepped up and successfully converted a 26-yard field goal, breaking the tie and securing the win for the Blue Devils.
Jordan Waters showcased his offensive prowess with 18 carries for 76 yards, resulting in a crucial touchdown. Jaquez Moore, equally instrumental, maintained the game’s momentum both in the running and receiving game, carrying the ball 11 times for 76 yards, and securing an essential touchdown. Their stellar contributions played a significant role in the team’s victory.
