Former NCCU QB Signs UFL Deal

Former North Carolina Central University (NCCU) star quarterback Davius Richard has signed a deal to play with the Houston Roughnecks in the United Football League, according to sources.

Richard earned MEAC Offensive Player of the Year for a second consecutive season, capping a record-setting collegiate career, helping lead NCCU to its first FCS playoff game in program history.

After three seasons (2019-2023) Richard ranks second on NCCU’s all-time career passing list with 6,814 passing yards and 52 passing touchdowns, and second in career total offense with 8,210 total yards.

Richard was named FCS ADA Scholar-Athlete of the Year after excelling academically, maintaining a 3.59 GPA in Business Administration.

ABOUT THE UNITED FOOTBALL LEAGUE

The United Football League (UFL), formed by the merging of the XFL and USFL in 2024, is set to launch as the premier spring football platform. The UFL has eight teams in Arlington (TX), Birmingham (AL), Detroit (MI), Houston (TX), San Antonio (TX), Memphis (TN), St. Louis (MO), and Washington D.C.
