53 Juvenile Petitions Filed Against 4 Teenagers, 9 Firearms Seized in Stolen Vehicle Case
DURHAM, NC – Durham Police have obtained 53 juvenile petitions against four teenagers involved in weapons violations, stolen property, and breaking and entering.
A 17-year-old and two 16-year-olds each face nine counts of handgun possession and three counts of possessing stolen property. A 15-year-old is charged with nine counts of handgun possession, five counts of possessing stolen goods, two counts of larceny, and one count of breaking and entering a motor vehicle.
The investigation began on September 24, 2024, when officers spotted a stolen vehicle at a hotel on Page Road, previously linked to a hit-and-run with shots fired. Surveillance led to a search warrant, resulting in the detention of four adults and four juveniles. A fifth juvenile was detained outside of the hotel. Nine handguns, including two stolen, were seized, and another stolen vehicle was found nearby.
Two of the adults, Maurice Keys, 19, and Jahquez Brown, 20, were charged with possession of a firearm by a felon and four counts each of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Three of the juveniles were transported on previous secure custody petitions to the Department of Juvenile Justice. The fourth juvenile was served with a petition for failure to appear. More charges may follow as the investigation continues.
