Burlington Police Shoot 19-Year-Old During Domestic Disturbance; Suspect in Critical Condition
BURLINGTON, NC — A 19-year-old man is in critical condition after being shot by a Burlington Police officer early Sunday morning (Nov. 3). Police say the incident began around 1:27 a.m. when a woman called 911 to report that her son, Logan Blackwood, appeared to be under the influence of drugs and was allegedly attempting to harm her other son. Dispatchers could hear screaming in the background during the call.
Officers arrived at a mobile home park on the 900 block of Sharpe Road, where the woman informed them that Blackwood might be armed with a knife. She was quickly escorted from the home for her safety. Police established a safety perimeter and attempted to de-escalate the situation by speaking with Blackwood.
According to police, Blackwood suddenly emerged from the home and charged at the officers despite repeated commands to stop. When Blackwood continued advancing and attacked the officers, one officer fired, striking him. Officers immediately provided first aid, and EMS was called to transport Blackwood to the hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
Warrants for Blackwood’s arrest are pending, with charges including assault on a female, aggravated assault on a handicapped person, and assault on a law enforcement officer. A relative of Blackwood’s sustained injuries in the initial assault and was taken to a separate hospital for treatment.
The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is handling the investigation of the officer-involved shooting, and the officers involved have been placed on paid administrative leave per standard protocol. None of the officers were injured.
