NCCU Enters a New Era with Installation of Chancellor Karrie Dixon

DURHAM, NC – A new chapter in North Carolina Central University’s (NCCU) legacy begins as Karrie G. Dixon, Ed.D., is officially installed as the university’s 13th chancellor on Friday, April 11, at 9 a.m. in McDougald-McLendon Arena.

A Historic Ceremony

Chancellor Dixon will take the oath of office and receive the prestigious University Medallion during the installation ceremony. University of North Carolina System President Peter Hans will preside over the event, which will be followed by Dixon’s highly anticipated address. A reception at Brant Street Plaza will conclude the formal proceedings.

Soaring to New Heights: Scholarship Gala

The celebration continues in the evening with the Soaring to New Heights: Elevating, Empowering, and Embracing Our Legacy Scholarship Gala at the Sheraton Imperial Hotel Raleigh-Durham Airport (4700 Emperor Blvd.)

  • Date: Friday, April 11, 2025
  • Time: Doors open at 6:30 p.m., event begins at 7 p.m.
  • Tickets: $150 per person (Purchase deadline: Wednesday, March 19)
  • Proceeds benefit current and future NCCU Eagles

A Trailblazing Leader

Since taking office on July 1, 2024, Chancellor Dixon has led NCCU to record-breaking achievements, including:

  • Highest enrollment in the UNC System for the second consecutive year
  • Expansion of online learning through Project Kitty Hawk
  • Increased veteran student enrollment
  • Established the nation’s first AI institute at an HBCU, funded by Google.org
