Raleigh Carjacking Leads to Arrests; Two Young Children Found Safe
RALEIGH, N.C. — Two suspects are in custody after a violent carjacking in a Raleigh Food Lion parking lot Thursday night (August 7) left a woman injured and sparked a search for two young children — both of whom were later found safe.

The carjacking happened around 10 p.m. at the Food Lion on 3685 New Bern Avenue. According to Raleigh police, Mateo Domingo Medina, 23, and Chardazha Naimon Alston, 23, assaulted a woman before fleeing in her black Mazda.
Inside the vehicle were two children: the victim’s 11-year-old autistic, nonverbal daughter, and a 4-year-old child belonging to one of the suspects. Police later confirmed that the assaulted woman is the mother of one of the suspects, though they have not said which one.
Emergency responders transported the woman to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
Children Located; Arrests Made
An officer spotted the stolen Mazda a short time later at Duke Raleigh Hospital. Both Medina and Alston were taken into custody without further incident, and both children were found unharmed.
Court documents state the children were located by police just after midnight on Friday.
Charges and Court Appearance
- Mateo Domingo Medina: First-degree kidnapping, larceny of a motor vehicle, assault on a female. He is being held without bond.
- Chardazha Naimon Alston: First-degree kidnapping, larceny of a motor vehicle, simple assault. Her bond is set at $5,000.
Both are scheduled to appear in court on Friday at 1:30 p.m. at the Wake County Justice Center.
