TRIANGLE REGION, NC – From violent party shootings in Alamance and Nash counties to a father-son drug bust in Halifax, and even a Raleigh lawyer accused of stealing $1.5 million from clients, crime rocked communities across the Triangle last week. The Sept. 15–21 Triangle Crime Report highlights some of the region’s most alarming cases, spanning gun violence, drug trafficking, embezzlement, and a $200K copper theft at a Johnston County solar farm.

ALAMANCE COUNTY

Five Injured in Alamance County Party Shooting

The Alamance County Sheriff’s Office reports that five people were shot during a party with more than 200 attendees on Florence Road near Green Level early Saturday (Sept. 20). The victims — a 15-year-old boy, 16-year-old girl, 19-year-old man, 22-year-old man, and 35-year-old man — suffered non-life-threatening injuries, with one still hospitalized. Officials say witnesses and victims have refused to cooperate with the investigation.

DURHAM COUNTY

Two Shot in Car on Larchwood Drive

Durham police are investigating after a man and woman were found shot inside a vehicle in the 1000 block of Larchwood Drive on Sept. 16. The man suffered life-threatening injuries, while the woman’s injuries were described as non-life-threatening. The case remains under investigation.

Woman and Two Children Shot At in Downtown Durham

A woman driving with her two children (ages 11 and 8) was targeted by gunfire in the 2000 block of Pettigrew Street on Sept. 17. Police reported at least 23 evidence markers at the scene after another vehicle opened fire, striking her SUV. No suspects have been identified, and the case remains under investigation.

GRANVILLE COUNTY

Felony Marijuana Arrest Following I-85 Traffic Stop

Granville County Sheriff’s deputies seized over 43 grams of marijuana and nearly $2,900 in cash during a Sept. 16 traffic stop on I-85. The driver of this black Audi SUV with Illinois plates was arrested and faces multiple charges, including felony possession of marijuana. (Photo: GCSO)

On Sept. 16, Granville County Sheriff Robert Fountain conducted a traffic stop on I-85 near mile marker 193 that led to the seizure of 43.56 grams of marijuana and nearly $2,900 in cash. The driver, operating a black Audi SUV with Illinois plates, was arrested and charged with felony possession of marijuana, speeding, and driving without a valid license. The investigation remains ongoing.

Father and Son Arrested in Halifax County Drug Bust

A major drug raid in Roanoke Rapids led to the arrests of Roscoe Sylvester Greene, 48, and his son, Ahmaad De’Angelo Greene, 24, after officers seized over 17 pounds of marijuana, three firearms — including a machine gun — and $17,000 cash. The Sept. 4 bust followed community complaints of drug activity on Neuse River Road. Both men face multiple trafficking and firearm charges and were each given a $35,000 bond with a Sept. 25 court date.

JOHNSTON COUNTY

$200K in Copper Wiring Stolen from Johnston County Solar Farm

The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the theft of $200,000 worth of copper wiring from a solar farm on NC Highway 50 near Sanders Road. The wiring was taken from multiple panels between July 16 and Sept. 10. No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing.

Selma Woman Charged in Two Johnston County Break-Ins

Amy Gail Davis, 51, of Selma, was arrested after two break-ins at the same Brogden Road property earlier this month. Items stolen included a drill, Jeep rims, antique bottles, and tools valued at over $700. Davis faces multiple felony charges including breaking and entering, larceny, and conspiracy. Investigators say more arrests are expected.

Dunn Woman Charged with Theft and Meth Possession in Johnston County

Emily Matthews, 37, of Dunn, was arrested after allegedly stealing a Craftsman weed-eater and battery from a home on NC Highway 96 South and selling them for $60. When detained days later in Benson, deputies found methamphetamine concealed in her clothing. Matthews faces felony and misdemeanor charges and was jailed under a $16,000 bond.

NASH COUNTY

One Dead, Four Injured in Rocky Mount House Party Shooting

Rocky Mount police are investigating a shooting on Benvenue Road that left 24-year-old Kedar Darden dead and four others injured early Sunday morning. Witnesses said an argument between two men on a back deck escalated into a shootout, with 30–40 shots fired as nearly 20 people ran for cover. One victim remains hospitalized in fair condition; three others have been released. Police continue to search for suspects.

VANCE COUNTY

Major Vance County Sting Nets Guns, Drugs, and Federal Charges

A sweeping multi-agency operation in Vance County has led to five federal indictments, dozens of state arrests, and the seizure of guns and drugs. Dubbed “Operation Resilience,” the sting included federal, state, and local agencies working together in Henderson and Oxford. Among those federally charged: Qwmaine Raekwon Knott, Andre Khan, Terrance Hargrove, Keith Bagley, and Shamar Evans — facing counts ranging from fentanyl and cocaine trafficking to firearm violations. Officials say the effort disrupted major drug criminal activity and removed dangerous offenders from the streets.

WAKE COUNTY

Raleigh Man Charged in Deadly Southeast Raleigh Shootings

Demikael Brandon Cobb, 25, was arrested after two Sept. 15 shootings in southeast Raleigh. A man was wounded on Coke Street around 4 a.m., and 55-year-old Willis Hope was fatally shot less than two hours later on Poole Road. Cobb faces charges including murder, assault with a deadly weapon, and firearm offenses. He is being held without bond and will appear in Wake County Court on Sept. 22.

Raleigh Attorney Accused of $1.5M Embezzlement, Bar Association Intervenes

The NC Bar Association has filed a petition to block attorney Korey Kiger, 36, of Raleigh, from handling client funds amid 15 charges of embezzlement and elder exploitation in Durham and Johnston counties. Kiger is accused of stealing over $1.5 million from clients and his former law firm, Kiger Walker PLLC. One client, whose mother has terminal cancer, said she paid Kiger $3,500 only to have him disappear days later. His former partner, Steven Walker, reported him to the Bar on Sept. 3.

Two Apex Men Charged After Washington, NC Shooting

Shakur Warren and Kahlil Rogers, both of Apex, were arrested after a shooting in Washington, NC on West 9th Street Sunday night (Sept. 21). Jamarion Windley suffered multiple gunshot wounds and remains hospitalized in stable condition. Warren and Rogers face assault with a deadly weapon charges and are being held without bond. More arrests are expected.
