Rocky Mount Caregiver Arrested After Major Drug Seizure at Adult Care Home
ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — A Nash County caregiver was arrested after deputies uncovered a large cache of narcotics inside a group home where adults with cognitive disabilities were being housed. Authorities say the discovery highlights an alarming mix of drug trafficking and patient neglect.
Large Cocaine Seizure Leads to Arrest
According to the Nash County Sheriff’s Office, deputies executed a search warrant around 10 p.m. on Nov. 25, 2025, at a residence located at 910 Nashville Road in Rocky Mount. The operation followed multiple citizen complaints about suspected drug activity at the address.

Upon entry, investigators say caregiver Danny Lee Lawrence Jr., 40, attempted to flee to the bathroom to flush narcotics but was quickly apprehended.
A search of the home led to the discovery of approximately 472 grams of cocaine, 180 grams of marijuana, eight pints of codeine syrup, digital scales, firearm magazines and ammunition, and cash consistent with drug sales. Deputies also found drug paraphernalia used for packaging narcotics.
Uncovering Neglect Inside a Group Home
During the search, deputies discovered that the residence was being operated as an adult care home — commonly referred to as a group home. Three patients with cognitive disabilities were living inside the property.
Medical personnel were called to evaluate the patients, who were found to be in stable condition. The investigation revealed that Lawrence was employed as a caregiver responsible for their daily supervision and care.
Deputies observed evidence of active drug sales occurring inside the home while the patients were present. Nash County Adult Protective Services responded and assumed responsibility for the residents, transferring care to a responsible party as their investigation continues.

Lawrence faces multiple felony and misdemeanor charges, including:
- Trafficking Cocaine (1 count)
- Possession with Intent to Sell/Deliver (PWISD) Marijuana (1 count)
- PWISD Schedule II Controlled Substance (1 count)
- Maintain a Dwelling for Controlled Substances (1 count)
- Destruction of Criminal Evidence (1 count)
- Patient Abuse and Neglect (3 counts)
- Resisting a Public Officer (1 count)
- Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (1 count)
He remains held at the Nash County Detention Center pending a bond hearing scheduled for Nov. 29, 2025, at the Nash County Courthouse.
Sheriff’s Statement
Sheriff Keith Stone praised citizens for reporting suspicious activity and the officers who worked through the holiday weekend:
“It’s disturbing to know that residents of this home were subjected to criminal activity by the person entrusted with their care. Mr. Lawrence’s actions will not be tolerated in Nash County,” Stone said. “We are grateful for the citizens who spoke up and the dedicated officers who stepped in to protect these vulnerable individuals.”
