Two Arrested in Deadly Hillsborough Road Shooting; Face Murder Charges

DURHAM, NC – Durham police have arrested two individuals in connection with a January shooting on Hillsborough Road that left one man dead and another person critically injured. Investigators say the fatal gunfire erupted along one of the city’s busiest corridors, escalating into a targeted attack that ended in tragedy.

Arrests Made in January 4 Fatal Shooting

The Durham Police Department confirmed the arrests of Tony Scott II, 25, of Durham, and Aryahna Mangum, 26, of Durham, in connection with the fatal shooting that occurred on January 4, 2026, in the 3500 block of Hillsborough Road.

Both suspects have been charged with:

  • One count of Murder
  • Two counts of Conspiracy
  • One count of Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury

What Happened on Hillsborough Road

According to the original release, at approximately 9:05 p.m., a 2024 Chevy Malibu was traveling west on Hillsborough Road when a second vehicle pulled alongside it on the passenger side. An individual inside the second vehicle began firing multiple shots toward the Malibu.

The driver of the Malibu lost control of the vehicle, which came to rest in the parking lot of a nearby business.

The driver, an adult male, was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased. A female passenger in the vehicle suffered serious, life-threatening injuries and was also transported to a hospital for treatment.

No other injuries were reported.
