About Durham CrimeStoppers

Durham CrimeStoppers is a nonprofit organization that gives community members a safe, anonymous way to report criminal activity and help make Durham a safer place to live, work, and play. The program is a partnership between the community, local media, law enforcement agencies, and area businesses working together to solve crimes. Tipsters can share information about unsolved crimes, wanted persons, or illegal drug activity by calling 919-683-1200 or submitting a tip online at durhamcrimestoppers.org — without ever having to reveal their identity. A volunteer board of directors, made up of Durham residents, oversees the program, establishes policies, raises funds, and determines the amount of rewards. If a tip leads to a felony arrest, the caller may be eligible for a cash reward ranging from $100 to $2,000, depending on the severity of the crime. By encouraging citizen involvement, CrimeStoppers recovers stolen property, removes illegal guns and drugs from the streets, and helps investigators close cases that might otherwise go unsolved.
