Channing Dungey Takes Over BET, MTV, Nickelodeon and More in Major Skydance Shake-Up
One of Hollywood’s most influential Black executives is stepping into an even bigger role.

Channing Dungey, chairman and CEO of Warner Bros. Television Group and U.S. Networks, has confirmed that she will join the executive leadership team of the newly formed Skydance while expanding her oversight to include Paramount Media Networks — home to BET, MTV, Nickelodeon, Comedy Central and several other major cable brands.
The move comes as the entertainment industry undergoes one of its largest corporate transformations in years. Paramount completed its acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery on Oct. 6, bringing the companies together under the Skydance name. The massive entertainment portfolio now stretches across film, television, streaming, news, sports and cable.
For Dungey, the restructuring considerably expands an already formidable television portfolio.
Dungey Adds BET, MTV, Nickelodeon and More
Under the new structure, Dungey will continue leading Warner Bros. Television Group and overseeing the former Warner Bros. Discovery U.S. networks while assuming responsibility for Paramount Media Networks.
That means her portfolio now includes some of television’s most recognizable brands, including BET, MTV, Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, VH1, Paramount Network, TV Land, CMT, Pop TV and Logo TV.
She also retains oversight of Warner Bros. Discovery networks that include TBS, TNT, truTV, Turner Classic Movies, HGTV, Food Network, Discovery Channel, TLC, OWN, Cartoon Network and Adult Swim, among others.
The combined operation puts roughly 50 cable networks under the Skydance television umbrella, with Dungey playing a central role in managing the portfolio.
A Historic Career Reaches Another Milestone
The expanded assignment adds another milestone to Dungey’s groundbreaking career.
In 2016, she made history when she became the first Black executive to lead the entertainment division of a major U.S. broadcast television network as president of ABC Entertainment. She later worked at Netflix before joining Warner Bros. Television Group, where she became chairman in 2021.
Her influence extends far beyond the cable networks she now oversees. Warner Bros. Television produces more than 80 original series across more than 20 platforms, with a portfolio that has included shows such as Abbott Elementary, Ted Lasso, Shrinking, The Voice and The Pitt.
For Black audiences in particular, Dungey’s expanded oversight of BET is noteworthy. One of the most recognizable brands created specifically to serve Black audiences will now fall within the portfolio of a Black woman who has already broken some of television’s highest corporate barriers.
Where Dungey Fits in the New Skydance
Dungey will report to George Cheeks, co-chair and chief content officer of Skydance TV, and JB Perrette, co-chair and chief business officer of Skydance TV.
In a memo to employees confirming her new responsibilities, Dungey acknowledged both the possibilities and uncertainty that accompany a corporate transformation of this size, while saying she would work to keep employees informed as the new organization takes shape.
Her appointment also provides continuity for Warner Bros. Television as Skydance integrates two enormous entertainment operations.
Skydance Now Controls a Huge Piece of Hollywood
The scale of the new company is difficult to overstate.
Skydance now brings together Warner Bros., Paramount Pictures, CBS, HBO, CNN, BET, MTV, Nickelodeon, Discovery and other major entertainment brands, along with streaming services HBO Max and Paramount+. The company also controls extensive film and television libraries and franchises ranging from Harry Potter and DC properties to Mission: Impossible and Top Gun.
Skydance says the combined company will produce at least 30 theatrical films annually and more than 180 television shows and series while targeting at least $6 billion in run-rate synergies within three years.
The restructuring comes at a challenging moment for traditional cable television, however. Audiences continue shifting toward streaming and other digital platforms, leaving Skydance with the task of determining how established brands such as MTV, BET, Nickelodeon, Food Network and HGTV evolve for the next generation of viewers.
That makes Dungey’s new position about more than simply managing television networks. She will be among the executives helping determine what some of America’s best-known television brands become next.
A Black Woman With an Extraordinary Seat at Hollywood’s Table
Dungey’s career has already included several groundbreaking chapters. Her latest assignment gives her influence over an unusually broad collection of entertainment brands reaching children, families, Black audiences, music fans, lifestyle viewers, and general entertainment audiences.
And while the Skydance restructuring is still taking shape, one thing is clear: Channing Dungey will have a major voice in what comes next.
