Bailey Has Career Day, Lady Tar Heels Cruise 79-46

CHAPEL HILL, NC – Freshmen Center Janelle Bailey has a career day and posts a double double, as the University of North Carolina Lady Tar Heels defeated the Radford Lady Highlanders 79-46.

North Carolina (2-1, 0-0 ACC) Junior guard Paris Kea lit the fuel to their fire leading the way going 4-for-5 adding a couple of free throws giving the Tar Heels a early 15-8 lead , Freshmen Janelle Bailey helped sparked that flame as well contributing six points and going 3-for-3 from the field and collecting six rebounds as the Lady Tar Heels finish the first quarter with a commanding 31-17 lead.

Radford (2-1, 0-0 Big South) only would chop into the lead with 3:14 left in the 3rd quarter, Jen Falconer had a layup dished by Destinee Walker to cut lead 41-27, Walker finished with 12 points leading the Highlanders. Khiana Johnson scored a layup then a three-pointer to close the distance to 16 points, she finished the game with nine points.

Radford also went on a 6-0 run while UNC had a scoring drought for 4:57 with 3:14 left in 3rd no field goals were made., Jones fts (2-2) UNC leads 46-32.

Paris Kea already leads the ACC is scoring at 26.6 points per game, second in both assist (7.5) and steals (4.0), Kea continued that tonight going 6-for-8 having 14 points. All in 1st half of action. Kea finished the game 7-for-11 from the field with 18 points, one rebound, three assists, and three steals. The Tarboro-native also went perfect from the free throw line (4-for-4).

Leading the way was Freshman Janelle Bailey who had a career high in points (19) and rebounds (10) which was a double-double performance, she also finished going 8-for-10 from the field with one assist and three blocks.

After the game she stated “It feels better with this being my second real game, and now i’m starting to get in the groove of things, rebounding more especially offensive”

North Carolina Head Coach Sylvia Hatchell commented after the game that Bailey is an “huge ingredient” to their team.

Key notes from the game, UNC out rebounded the Highlanders 36-30, and shot a better percentage from the field going 54% compared to Radford’s 25%. Lady Tar Heel Forward Emily Sullivan finished the game 5-for-6 scoring 11 pts in the final four to seal the victory for UNC.

The North Carolina Tar Heels will return back home for action against South Alabama on Sunday, November 19th at 3 pm.
