Virtual Thirtieth Annual White Breakfast Scholarship Fundraiser

Women of Vision – Awards of Excellence – December 12, 2020, 11am

The Bennett College National Alumnae Association, Durham Chapter, invites you to attend and support our virtual “Thirtieth Annual White Breakfast Scholarship Fundraiser” on December 12, 2020, at 11 am. The Chapter will honor a distinguished community leader with the “Woman of Vision Award of Excellence”. Other distinguished awards will be presented to a Friend of Bennett College and the Chapter Phenomenal Woman Award will be presented to a deserving Bennett College Alumna.

The White Breakfast is one of the earliest traditions to become an institution at Bennett College. The tradition was established around 1930. Bennett students did not go home for Thanksgiving at that time. Dr. David Jones, President, along with his wife, Susie Jones felt that it would be enriching for the young women attending the college to have an entire day of community service. The students visited elderly residents in the county home, then returned to campus and dressed up in white for breakfast. The White Breakfast was held annually on Thanksgiving Day through 1937. As times changed, the White Breakfast was reinstituted as an alumnae weekend activity. It has come to be a fundraising event to honor and show appreciation for community members.
