Durham And The Integration Of The Triangle’s Universities

Join Eddie Davis, Public Historian for Durham’s Sesquicentennial, for a presentation on how Durham residents influenced the integration of NC State, UNC-Chapel Hill, and Duke Universities. Mr. Davis will lead discussion on the efforts of Thomas Hocutt and Pauli Murray in the 1930s; the McKissick v. Carmichael case that led to the integration of the UNC Law School in 1950; and the Hillside High School students who were among the inaugural undergraduate classes that included African Americans at UNC in 1955, NC State in 1956, and Duke in 1963.
