Tar Heels Men’s Basketball Wins Exhibition Matchup Against Mount Olive 107 – 64

The North Carolina Tar Heels defeated the University of Mount Olive Trojans 107 – 64 in an exhibition match-up. Sophomore forward Garrison Brooks finished the game with 16 points and 16 rebounds, however, Brooks was far from satisfied.

“I don’t think I played good,” Brooks said. “I missed two at the rim. I missed two free throws. I missed a lot of defensive assignments. I’ll see that tomorrow in film. My defense was poor…There was a lot of stuff people didn’t see that I know I did.”

“The video boards,” said head coach Coach Roy Williams when asked what he liked most about the game. “They really looked good. I don’t know why we have them because I can’t see the replay so we will get better at that too. Yeah, that’s about it. We got out on the court, got in front of people, got some experience playing some different lineups in the game.”

Rotations questions have been a big question around the Tar Heel basketball team. Williams wants to play two big men in the lineup. Still, the biggest rotation question is who’s going to start at point guard, junior Seventh Woods or freshman Coby White.

“I thought (White) was OK,” Williams said after starting White over Woods. “I thought he played much better in practice then he did tonight…He and Seventh (Woods) both had four turnovers, Coby in 22 Minutes and Seventh in 16, so I don’t like point guards that have those kind of turnovers totals.”

The Tar Heels finished the game with 22 turnovers. Moreover, the Tar Heels went 0-8 from the 3-point line in the first half and finished the game shooting 3-13 from the 3-point line. The only players to record 3-point baskets were senior guard Kenny Williams and sophomore guard Andrew Platek.

The opening games of the Tar Heel’s regular season are on the road against Wofford on November 6 and at Elon on November 9.

“Build toughness, it’ll build character,” Woods said. “Being on the road, two tough road games, especially when we lost to Wofford at home, so going over there we already know they’ll be hyped up. So I think that will probably be our biggest test. With that game, we’ll see how our season goes,” Woods said.
