Durham Register of Deeds Announces ‘Thank A Vet’ Program Kickoff

Durham, NC – Upon release from the United States Armed Forces, it is highly recommended that veterans record their discharge papers in case originals are damaged or lost. The Register of Deeds Office is responsible for recording military discharge documents (DD-214’s) for veterans. The Durham County Register of Deeds Office will kick off their campaign encouraging all veterans to record their military discharge documents on Thursday, November 15, 2018, from 11 am until 3 pm.

RegisterTo show appreciation to veterans who participate in the campaign, the Register of Deeds Office will issue a “Thank-A-Vet” Photo ID that will enable card holders to access special discounts and incentives from participating businesses in Durham. Veterans interested in obtaining a Thank-A-Vet Photo ID Card should bring in their original DD-214 Form to be recorded along with a valid state-issued ID (Driver’s License, State Issued Identification Card or Government Issued Passport) to the Register of Deeds Office. Veterans that have already recorded their DD-214 Form in another county can present a certified copy upon arriving at the County Register of Deeds Office and still receive the discount card.

Once the campaign begins, veterans can visit the Durham County Register of Deeds Office in the County’s Administration II Building, located at 201 E. Main Street. On the first day of the campaign, veterans can receive a Thank-A-Vet identification card from 11 am until 3 pm. Following the campaign kickoff date, discount cards will be issued Monday through Friday, from 2 pm until 4 pm.

Thank-A-Vet card holders can begin to use their card right away by presenting it at a participating business in Durham. The participating business list is located on the County Register of Deeds Office webpage at www.dconc.gov/rod.
