Jessica Marie: Featured Artist Of the Week

Jessica Marie is the Spectacular Magazine Featured Artist of the Week for the week of March 25th.  Jessica Marie is an artist, student, entrepreneur, and mommy-to-be located in the Greensboro area. She enjoys working, creating, and loving with passion and intentionality. Spectacular Magazine (SM) wanted to know more about Jessica Marie (JM).

SM: How did you get started?

JM: I’ve sang and enjoyed music my whole life. I found my love and nitch very early, singing in choirs beginning at the age of 10. That turned into me applying to a competitive performing arts high school and majoring in chorus music. After graduating and moving on to attend the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, I began recording music my Sophomore year in 2015

SM: What is your genre/profession?

JM: I would narrow my genre down to Neo-soul. I like to write and sing about a plethora of topics. I mostly just like to express the cares that God lays on my heart.

SM: Who are your musical or artistic influences?

JM: Artists who deeply influence me include Frank Ocean, Lauryn Hill, Beyoncé, Solange, Daniel Caesar, Cardi B…..the list could honestly go on, Haha!

SM: In what ways has your music changed since you first got started?

JM: God is definitely the motivation for my art. I feel blessed to be given such a gift that gives me an platform to reach people. When I sing people listen. It’s one of the only times I feel heard. And I feel obligated to devote my gift back to him by singing the music he gives me.

SM: How has your music or sound changed since you first got started?

JM: I think my music has changed in the sense that I’ve become more and more comfortable with being transparent. I don’t feel the need to censor and hide myself as much anymore. And I’ve also been exploring the live band sound a lot more versus singing to track. The experience is a lot more captivating and authentic.

SM: Who would you like to collaborate with?

JM: I enjoy rap as well and I would love to collaborate with Andre 3000, J. Cole, or A boogie with a hoodie.

SM: Do you have any upcoming projects, shows, or appearances? What are your next steps?

JM: I do have a couple shows coming up, but those dates and times are still in the works of being solidified. I hope to drop my third album by the end of this year after I have my daughter.
