JooseLord Magnus: Featured Independent Artist of the Week

JooseLord Magnus is “the voice in your head that you tell to chill out so you don’t end up breaking things.” He is proudly known as “Controversial Rap’s Poster Boy” and considers himself the release to the craziness of the world. Born and raised in New York, the state of the origins of hip hop, with a musically inclined family, JooseLord had no choice but to find a space in the world of music.

He started off as a dancer, but quickly found release in music when his family moved to North Carolina while he was in middle school. His mom asked him to start because of his strong background in writing and making music. Not only is he a gifted rapper and writer, JooseLord also plays the drums.

While listening to his music, one might suggest that it is more political than musical. JooseLord finds more inspiration from political activists than musical artists. Major influences include Malcolm X and Huey P. Newton while minor influences include the group Onyx, Kanye (before the loss of his mother), Busta Rhymes and RedMan. “Controversy is my name and profession! I am controversially black.”

Aside from his musical capabilities, JooseLord considers himself a philanthropist and “amateur hood therapist.” He is currently involved with three charities that host yearly events such as a book bag drive, a coat drive and a present drive. He is adamant about changing the world with no suit and tie because representation matters. “Black boys need to see black men.” His music truly is a reflection of his desires to be a social change agent.

“I want to change the world. I want to show people that you don’t have to be boring. I want them to know that you can speak your mind on social issues. You can have an opinion and be rowdy with that opinion. People who are intelligent can also have charisma. They aren’t mutually exclusive. You can be conscious and still go to strip clubs. People need to understand each other. We’ve got to have these unfiltered conversations. People too often take the passion out of how they feel to protect other feelings. Stop!”

JooseLord will be releasing another project during the summer entitled “Rabble Rouser.” His music can be found on all music platforms.

“I stand for EVERYTHING I believe in…AT ALL TIMES! I won’t conform to what society says is okay because society is patrolled and manipulated by the government and the government doesn’t care about my people. Billion dollar corporations blatantly disrespect the people whose back this country was built on FOR FREE all while we are murdered in the streets for crimes others haven’t even missed a say at work for. So I stand for my people. Not because it’s cool. Because I HAVE TO. Because I WANT TO!”
