From Eviction to Excelling: Local Dad Ronald Barthelus Touts Education with Life Transformation

Raleigh, NC – In late 2017, Ronald Barthelus was at an all-time low in his life. He had just lost his father, was one month away from eviction, and had to tell his small children there would be no Christmas celebrations that year.

Barthelus was working as a pharmacy supply delivery man – driving overnight from Nags Head to Raleigh six nights per week, which not only wasn’t paying the bills but also prevented him from spending time with his family. He knew he needed to make a change to become more financially stable, to set a good example for his kids and to honor his father’s legacy.

After a brief apprenticeship for a friend’s computer repair and networking service company, Barthelus knew he had found new passion and a viable career with the demand, earning potential and plethora of quality IT companies in the greater Triangle area. He enrolled at MyComputerCareer, a Triangle-based technical training school, and earned six certifications in less than a year with the support and encouragement of his family. With those certifications, he was able to jump into the booming IT industry fully prepared with the education, mentorship and networking skills.

Today, Barthelus works as a wireless network analyst for Perspecta in Raleigh, where he enjoys flexible hours and substantially better pay. He is responsible for monitoring wireless access points and connectivity for many devices used by the US Post Service. The job has allowed him to provide stable housing and other opportunities for his family financially, and also to spend more time with them during the evenings and weekends.

Barthelus credits his life transformation with his MyComputerCareer IT training that gave him a sense of purpose and confidence in his abilities, as well as the time and finances to live the life he always dreamed. He challenges others, saying “Take a leap of faith and make the sacrifice to better yourself. It will take effort and commitment, but it will be worth it. The sky is the limit, and there is so much potential, especially in the IT field!”
