NCCU Ultimate Homecoming ‘19 Wrap-Up: Hip-Hop Concert, Step Show, Stroll Off, Drag Show

Durham, NC – North Carolina Central University (NCCU) celebrated the ultimate homecoming November 3–9, 2019, affording students, alumni, family and friends an enjoyable week of excitement, entertainment, and fun, including the big game against the Norfolk State University Spartans. NCCU Ultimate Homecoming Experience 2019 was the #GOAT (Greatest of All Times)!

Hip-Hop Concert

The Ultimate Hip-Hop Concert took place on Thursday, November 7 in McDougald–McLendon Arena. Megan thee Stallion, Lil Durk, and Tink performed for a sold-out crowd.

Megan the Stallion, currently completing her degree in health administration at Texas Southern University, is a Houston, Texas native. With sexy anthems like “Big Ole Freak” and critically acclaimed mixtapes like Fever, the rapper has established herself as one of the most exciting new artists in rap.

Chicago rapper Lil Durk brings pop touches to his raw lyrical style. He released a new mixtape, Love Songs 4 the Streets 2, in August 2019. The 16-song project featured guest spots from 21 Savage, Nicki Minaj, Meek Mill, and many others. Tink, also from Chicago, is most known for joining Jeremih on a dynamic track called “Don’t Tell Nobody” and “Breakin’ Me” released in January 2019.

Step Show

Friday night (Nov. 8) in McDougald-McLendon Arena was a night of precision, high-volume stepping, and bragging rights for who runs the yard. Those rights went to the NCCU chapters of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Incorporated and Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated.

 

Stroll Off

The highly-anticipated Old School Greek Stroll-Off comprised of members of the NCCU faculty and staff had the Library Greek Bowl jumping on Thursday (Nov. 7) during the 10:40 Break.

Drag Show

The Ultimate Drag Show in B. N. Duke Auditorium on Wednesday (Nov. 6) was filled with talent and fashion. NCCU is one of only two HBCUs in the nation to have a fully staffed LGBTA center and the first in North Carolina.
