Bulldogs Blank Eagles to Spoil Senior Day
DURHAM, NC — The cold weather nor the wind was a factor for the South Carolina State University Bulldogs as they dominated North Carolina Central University in all aspects as the Bulldogs shutout NCCU 24-0 on Saturday.
South Carolina State (7-3 overall, 5-2 MEAC) was led by redshirt junior running back LaBron Morris’ 135 rushing yards and his two touchdowns. They first got on the board during 13:06 in the 1st Quarter, thanks to senior De’Montrez Burroughs 25-yard pass from redshirt freshman Corey Fields.
Morris first reached paydirt with 35-seconds left in the first half on a three-yard run. He then followed up with his second touchdown, a 2-yard run with 56 seconds to go in the third quarter to seal the fate.
The Eagles, despite being at home and honoring their Seniors, were plagued by the windy conditions at O’Kelly-Riddick Stadium.
Redshirt senior defensive back DeVonta Fair was the star of NCCU, leading the way with ten tackles, while redshirt senior defensive end Darius Royster had 8 tackles and one sack.
The Eagles offense failed to get on the scoreboard and to move the ball. They amassed only 170 yards of offense and was 1-for-13 of third-down conversions, with 24:31 of possession.
Next Saturday, the Bulldogs of SC State will travel to Norfolk, VA to face Norfolk State at 1 PM. On the other hand, the Eagles of North Carolina Central (4-7 overall,
3-4 MEAC) will travel to Greensboro, NC, to face their arch-rival — the North Carolina A&T State Aggies, who are leaders of the MEAC for the third consecutive year — in the Aggie/Eagle classic.
