NCCU’s Blount Takes MEAC’s Defensive Player of the Week

NORFOLK, Va. – North Carolina Central University senior forward Jibri Blount (Pittsburgh, Pa.) had a phenomenal weekend for the Eagles and he has been named both Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Player and Co-Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday, Feb. 25.

Blount averaged an impressive 24.0 points and 14.5 rebounds per game against Maryland Eastern Shore and Howard, including an outburst of 28 points and 18 rebounds against the Hawks on 12 made field goals. On top of that, Blount shot 60.0 percent from the floor (21-for-35), and swiped four steals.

Blount is currently second in the league with 19.2 points, third in rebounding with 9.4 boards, and first in steals with 2.2 steals per game through 27 games. Over 13 conference games, he’s the leading scorer against league opponents with 19.9 points, fourth in rebounding with 10.2 caroms, and fourth in steals with 1.8 swipes per outing.

This is Blount’s fourth and fifth weekly honor of the season and his first MEAC Defensive Player of the Week award.

NCCU will play its final road game of the season on Saturday, Feb. 29 at South Carolina State before returning home to host Bethune-Cookman on Monday, March 2 inside McDougald-McLendon Arena at 7:30 p.m.
